“Wa laqad kholaqnaakum tsumma showwarnaakum tsumma qulnaa lil-malaaa’ikatisjuduu li’aadama, fa sajaduuu illaaa ibliis.” (QS Al A’raf verse 11)

Very straight ayat, I’ll go to a brief translation before we go to the heavy subject. We created you. We’re the one that created you. We’re the one who made you. So I know what you like. Cause I made you. And I know how I fashioned you. And I know the things I put inside of you. And I know every one of your body part. And I know everyone of your craving and everyone of your temptations. And then after creating your body, your physical body, then I put something fascinating in you, which Allah doesn’t mention here.

But says, “Tsumma qulnaa lil-malaaa’ikatisjuduu li’aadama.” (QS Al A’raf verse 11)

We said to the Angel, “Please make sajdah to Adam.”

All of them did that with the exceptional of Iblis.

“Lam yakun minas-saajidiin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 11)

He wasn’t gonna be from those who make sajdah. He wasn’t gonna do it.

“Lam yakun minas-saajidiin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 11)

As supposed to say, “Ma sajada au lam yasjud.”

“Lam yakun minas-saajidiin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 11)

He was never gonna do it. Allah knew all along he wasn’t gonna do it.

“Qoola maa mana’aka allaa tasjuda idz amartuk.” (QS Al A’raf verse 12)

Allah said, “What of anything? What possibly prevented you to make sajdah when I told you? When I commanded you?”

“Qoola ana khairum min-h.” (QS Al A’raf verse 12)

You know the story. It’s not the focus of the day but it’s important to build this conversation.

He says, “I’m better than him.”

“Qoola ana khairum min-h, kholaqtanii min naar, wa kholaqtahuu min thiin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 12)

“You made me from fire, you made him from clay.”

You know, a kaafiir does not believe that Allah made him. A kaafiir does not believe that Allah is Kholiq (the Creator). This is the words of Iblis.

And Iblis said, “Kholaqtanii.”

“You made me.”

He doesn’t just believe in Allah, he’s talking to Allah. And he’s acknowledging that Allah is his Creator. His kufur is just not know, I don’t believe Allah exist. His disbelieve is his actually his disobedience. I’ll say that three times.

His disbelieve is his disobedience.
His disbelieve is his disobedience.
His disbelieve is his disobedience.

Why am I saying it three times? Because there are some of people in the audience, who disobey Allah, and they say,

“It’s not that bad! At least I still believe.”

“At least I still believe. It’s not like I’m a kaafir.”

“I do some stuff, I know, it’s messed up. But it’s not like I’m a disbeliever.”

His disbelieve was his disobedience. Syaitan, he doesn’t need to get you to disbelieve. You can still call Allah your creator. All syaitan has to do is get you to what? Disobey.

All he need you to do is gets you to disobey. You have to understand that. And if you keep telling yourself at the end of it, “At least I still believe in Allah.”

“That’s should be good enough for me.”

Then syaitan believe in Allah too. He did. He did exactly that. That’s why I’m repeating that three times. You got that point? That’s really important for this conversation.

“Kholaqtanii min naar, wa kholaqtahuu min thiin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 12)

“Qoola fahbith min-haa fa maa yakuunu laka an tatakabbaro fiihaa.” (QS Al A’raf verse 13)

And Allah says, “Get down from here. It’s not appropriate for you to show your arrogants here.”

To think, to consider yourself big here. To make yourself big before Allah. What is the thing we say everytime we go into shalah? Allahu Akbar. Allah is greater. Allah is greater. Allah is greater. Which is mean I’m not, I’m not, I’m not. And Allah says, when you disobey, that means you’re greater. You think you’re greater. That’s disobediences.

So Allah says to him, “It’s not appropriate for you to be arrogant in this place.”

“Fakhruj innaka minash-shooghiriin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 13)

“Then get out of here, leave! You’re case out!”

You’re from those who have been humiliated. “Ash-shooghiruun” here means humiliated.

“Qoola anzhirnii ilaa yaumi yub’atsuun.” (QS Al A’raf verse 14)

So, he said, “Just give me time, wait for me. Allow me a little bit extra deadline until the day this people will be raise again.”

“Until the day where human beings are going to be raise again.”

He asked Allah, give me time until Judgment Day.

Allah says, “Qoola innaka minal-munzhooriin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 15)

Allah says you will be given time until. You’re among those who have been given time. I’m allowing you to stay that long. ‘Ulama disagrees whether Iblis died or not, and this is the progeny of Iblis. Or whether this is Iblis himself. But the “isyarah” in the Quran are he stayed. That he stay. Like even there are hadits like the Prophet shallallahu alaihi wa sallam faced him.

You know? – ‘alaihi shalawatu wa sallam –

So he (Iblis) did stay and he’s around. That Iblis. That same Iblis is still around. And he’s got his armies. And he’s got his minions that continued to do the “was wasa” (evil whisper) on his behalf, including himself.

So Allah says, I’ll give you time until, you know, “Innaka minal-munzhooriin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 15)

Basically he got in trouble with Allah because of us. In his mind, who does he blame? Us.

You know, you’re two sisters in the house. It’s not a sister in Islam. Siblings. You’re two sisters in the house. And you’re both in a room. And one of them is on the phone, and the other one is says, “Get out of the phone! I was talking on the phone!”

And then the other one puts it down, and says, “You can’t tell me what to do.”

And they start fighting each others. And then one of them gets in troubles. I’m not gonna tell you which one. One of them gets in trouble. Now she got a problem with the parents. But who does she like look at with these eyes that could shoot lasers? You blame your sister.

“It’s your fault. You arrghh I hate you!”

“My parents hate me because of you!”

“It’s nothing that’s wrong with me. I don’t have a temper issue.”

“I don’t have any problems. It’s you that made me looked bad.”

So, this is now, “Walillaahil-matsalul a’laa.” (QS An Nahl verse 60)

It’s still a relationship of “qurb” (closeness). Iblis, he want to show his closeness to Allah. And now he’s been humiliated because of the presence of who? He developed this hatred from human beings.

And he said, “Ya Allah let me prove to You. You made the wrong choice.”

“Let me prove to You, You should not have honored them. You should have honored me.”

“Let me prove to You, that You should not got me in trouble.”

“They should be the one in trouble. Give me time untill Judgment Day.”

“Fa bimaa aghwaitanii.” (QS Al A’raf verse 16)

“Because You made me slip.”

“Because You made me do wrong. You trap me into it.”

The secondary he blames Allah too.

“La aq’udanna lahum shiroothokal-mustaqiim.” (QS Al A’raf verse 16)

I will sit waiting for them. “Qo’ada lahu” in Arabic means, to sit somewhere and wait to emboss somebody. “Qo’ada” means, to sit somewhere and with a “lam” means to wait and you’re waiting to emboss somebody. Like imagine outside the door, one of you guys is behind the door of the Masjid, with the baseball bat, waiting for your friend to come out. Maybe not the baseball bat, bring a flower or something. I don’t know. But the idea is you hide and you wait for somebody to show out and then you attack them.

And somebody who is waiting an emboss is exposing himself or not? He’s not exposing himself.

And does he attack all the time or at the right moment? He’ll wait for the right moment and then he attack. That’s right?

So that’s captured inside, “La aq’udanna lahum shiroothokal-mustaqiim.” (QS Al A’raf verse 16)

I will be in “the straight path”. But I won’t come out all the time.

I’ll find the right moment. And then I’ll slip something in them and slip out before they can realize I was there that I set something to them.

“Tsumma la’aatiyannahum min baini aidiihim.” (QS Al A’raf verse 17)

Then I will come at them from right in front of them. What is right in front of us? The straight path leads to Jannah. I will come at them and say, “Hey don’t go here, don’t go to Jannah. Jannah is too far, man.”

Then they’ll (Iblis and his army) gonna give them (human) something right now.

“Why are you gotta work for Jannah?”

“I’ll give them short term benefits.”

I’m giving you one of the many interpretation of each. He’ll come at them in front of them.

“Wa min kholfihim.” (QS Al A’raf verse 17)

I’ll come from behind them. I’ll come from behind them, pulling them. You know? Someone is attacking you from behind. He wants you to stop. You’re making progress, and they want you to stop. And they want you to have back.
This expression is used in the Quran.

“Inqolabtum ‘alaaa a’qoobikum.” (QS Ali Imran verse 144)

You’re gonna turned back on your heels. You’re gonna reversed. You’re making progress towards Allah, you’ll start reversing. I will see that they’re making progress, and I’ll start yanking them back. I’ll attack them from behind.

“Wa ‘an aimaanihim wa ‘an syamaaa ‘ilihim.” (QS Al A’raf verse 17)

I’ll come at them from the right and the left. This is been interpreted in many ways. But “their right” means they’ll be among good company, I’ll still come to them. They’ll be in bad company, I’ll still come to them. Cause on your “yaamiin” (right side), you’re doing good. The right side is associated with good deeds. The left side is associated with bad deeds.

So from the right, even when they’re doing good deeds, I’ll still slip myself in. Even when you’re reading Quran, he’ll slip himself in. That’s way Allah said, “Fa idzaa qoro’tal-qur’aana fasta’idz billaahi minasy-syaithoonir-rojiim.” (QS An Nahl verse 98)

You’re reading Quran seek refuge of Allah from syaitan. Why? You’re doing good deed. What is syaitan gonna do with the good deed? Well, I’ll come at them when they’re doing good deeds. I’ll attack them when they’re doing bad deeds. I won’t stop. I’ll find the opportunity.

“Wa laa tajidu aktsarohum syaakiriin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 17)

And then You’ll see, You’ll find most of them are ungrateful. You’ll not gonna find most of them are grateful at all. In other words, when they disobey You, when they obey me, that means they are not grateful to You. Where did these passages begin?

Allah said, “We put you on the earth and We gave you a lot of means to live wealth.”

Right? Remember that? (QS Al A’raf verse 10)

What is? How is the continuous of speech going here? Allah is teaching us, look! Allah asked us a few thing we shouldn’t do. There are few things we’re not supposed to do. Most of what is on this earth is halal for us. How many meats are haram for us? We can count them. Compare that to one of the thing there are halal for us, uncountable. How many drinks are haram for us? Basically different variations of the same product. Right? And how many kinds of drinks are halal for us? You can’t count them. That is an uncountable amount. So the comparison between what Allah opened up for us to enjoy, and the things Allah said to stay away from this things, there’s no comparison!

And you still go after the few things He told you not to do. Then you are ungrateful. And Iblis said, “Look, the entire world You’ve opened for them, and You’ve made halal for them, but the few things you made haram, I’m gonna make them be those.”

“And You’ll see they’ll not grateful. They don’t appriciate all the things You did give them.”

They’ll only wanna go for the things that are forbidden on them.

“Wa laa tajidu aktsarohum syaakiriin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 17)

“Qoolaakhruj min-haa madz ‘uuman mad-huraa.” (QS Al A’raf verse 18)

“Get out of here! You’re guilty. You’re humiliated.”

“And you’ll be in case away, push out, kick out.”

“Laman tabi’aka min-hum.” (QS Al A’raf verse 18)

Whoever follows you among them. Whoever follows you among them. Allah doesn’t say, whoever disbelieve in me. That’s not a condition. The only condition Allah puts here, whoever listens to you. Whoever pays attention to you (syaitan) among them. Is it possible a muslim will listen to syaitan? We’re a bigger target. Whoever follows you among them.

“La’amla’anna jahannama minkum ajma’iin.” (QS Al A’raf verse 18)

Not “minhum ajma’iin”.

I will fill hell fire, I swear to it, with all of you all together. He doesn’t say all of “them”, He says all of “you”.

This is actually “li tau’iyah” to scare you. “Li tahdid”, to challenge you. The one reading Quran is like, “Wait! Where did ‘you’ come from?”

I thought Allah is gonna say, “I will fill hell with them.”

He says, “I will fill hell with you!”

You’re reading the book (Quran) and all of a sudden it’s pointing at you. It’s pointing at you and me!

“Me?”

Ya, better not follow syaitan. Cause the only way it’s pointing at you is if you’re following syaitan. So you get really terrifying. “Ya Allah don’t.”

You know? It’s a mean of terrifying. To go switch immediately to the second person.
